The O'Neill Public School District No. 7 covers approximately 114 square miles and serves the communities of Emmet, Inman, O'Neill, and Page. O'Neill Public School has a student to teacher ratio of approximately 1:9 and O'Neill St. Mary's has a ratio of approximately 1:8. O'Neill St. Mary's also has a preschool in their school with about 25 students who attend. In cooperation with the Head Start Program and Chambers Public School, the O'Neill district opened a preschool program during the 2008-09 school year.
In O'Neill, there are many general education classes taught at Northeast Community College. They also offer distance education classes. Students also go to Wayne State College, 99 miles, University of South Dakota at Vermillion, SD, 127 miles, University of Nebraska-Kearney, 162 miles, University of Nebraska-Omaha, 188 miles, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, 211 miles, and Chadron State College, 248 miles. Students have the option of attending O'Neill Public School or O'Neill St. Mary's School. Both offer grades K-12 classes.

The O'Neill Extended Campus is located at 505 East Highway 20 in O'Neill, Nebraska. The campus has state-of-the-art classrooms, student lounge, study space, a computer and health and science labs, and a technical training wing that can accommodate welding, building construction, industrial and agriculture-related courses.

The City thanks its citizens for their patience and understanding during the explosion and fire at the Parish Center. At this time Adams Street from 2nd Street to 4th Street and 3rd Street from John to Adams is closed to through traffic until further notice. John Prouty Construction and Randy North Construction are both on site for clean up of the area. The City would also like to thank the O’Neill Fire Department and the Departments from surrounding towns that came to help with mutual aid as well as all law enforcement officials involved.
